‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ Is Family Fun For All

October 8, 2014 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is an entertaining and intelligent film from Walt Disney Pictures that the kids will love and busy parents juggling it all will definitely relate to.

The movie is based on the children’s short story by Judith Viorst about Alexander Cooper (Ed Oxenbould) going though his “worst day ever.” His birthday wish is that the rest of his ‘perfect’ family would understand what it’s like to have such an awful day. What I loved about this movie is that you empathize with the characters and while you will be chuckling at the calamities of the day, the things that happen are believable and not just tools for cheap laughs.

Jen Garner is perfect as a mom trying to balance a career and her family. We can all relate to her and her work-family struggle. The most refreshing part of this whole movie is probably Steve Carrell as the temporarily out of work stay-at-home dad who – ready for this – is an extremely capable and good dad. We are all so sick of the portrayals of incompetent fathers. Carrell’s antics with the kids are still humorous but not at the expense of his intelligence. We applaud Disney for this! And, Alexander and his brother and sister are all truly likeable characters.

Overall the best part of this movie is the strong family bond that prevails throughout. Kids and adults will truly enjoy this film.

Pics below from the premiere at the lovely El Capitan theatre with a rockin’ after-party at Dave & Busters! Jen Garner looks absolutely stunning and again showed us what a genuinely nice person she is by signing autographs and chatting with fans (young and older 🙂 )

The film is rated PG and opens October 10th.
