Sad news out of the country music world – Blake Shelton’s father died on Tuesday evening.
Dick Shelton passed away in Oklahoma, surrounded by his loved ones, according to a statement posted on the singer’s website.
“I appreciate your understanding during this difficult time and thank you for all your prayers. Your support means the world to me. I love you guys,” wrote Shelton, 35.
“The Voice” star has postponed a number of upcoming tour dates in order to be with his family. His wife, county music star Miranda Lambert, also rescheduled shows this weekend.
“Thank you to the fans for all the support and prayers,” Lambert said in a statement. “This is a really difficult time for our family and the most important thing is being together. Tell your loved ones you love them. See you next week.”
Shelton dedicated his win for Music Video of the Year at the 2011 American Country Awards in December to his father. “I want to say hi to my dad back home … he’s been having a pretty rough couple of weeks, and I know he’s watching tonight,” the singer said while on stage. “I love you, Dad, and I dedicate this to you, man. Thank you.”
