Is Marissa Mayer Crowdsourcing Her Baby Name?

Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer and her husband Zachary Bogue welcomed their first child on September 30.

Bogue tweeted the good news on Monday, “Baby boy Bogue born last night. Mom (@marissamayer) and baby are doing great – we couldn’t be more excited!”

The 37-year-old stirred up some debate when she announced she would only be taking a short maternity leave from her new gig.

Mayer was tapped by Yahoo earlier this year after 13 years as a VP with Google. In an interview this summer, she said that Yahoo’s board was aware of her pregnancy when they offered her the position and in doing so, “they showed their evolved thinking.”

As the first-ever pregnant CEO of a Fortune 500 tech company, she was embraced as a role model by many for embracing the challenges of a high-powered career in tandem with new motherhood.

Showing that she truly is a trailblazer, Mayer has chosen an unorthodox way to pick her baby’s name – crowdsourcing!

Journalist and consultant Jeff Jarvis tweeted that she is soliciting for suggestions via e-mail.

“J ust got a large-group email from @marissamayer. She’s crowdsourcing suggestions for Baby Boy Bogue’s name! How digital can you get?”

What do you think about her strategy?
