Rita Wilson Reveals She Has Breast Cancer and had a Double Mastectomy

Rita Wilson is an incredible woman and actress. She shared today with PEOPLE that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and last week underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

She has an incredible attitude and also gives solid advice that saved her life.  Wilson stated that she is “recovering and most importantly, expected to make a full recovery. Why? Because I caught this early, have excellent doctors and because I got a second opinion.”

Wilson, married to actor Tom Hanks, stated that she had biopsies after her doctors had been monitoring her for a condition called lobular carcinoma in situ (a condition that can increase your risk of breast cancer). The biopsies revealed no cancer but a friend suggested she get a second opinion.  She was diagnosed with cancer – that friend and the second doctor and pathologist may have saved her life.

Wilson said on her Facebook page – “There is some news I want to share with you in hopes that if you or any woman you know is dealing with this that a second opinion is necessary and vital. Not just by another doctor but by another pathologist. I’m doing well and getting stronger every day.”

We definitely should all take her advice and take charge of our  health.

Thank you Rita and you are in our thoughts!
