How to Get Pen Ink Off of Hands

Remove stains from your hands with household ingredients.

If you have ever used a fountain pen or experienced the explosion of a ball point pen, you know the frustration of ink stains on your hands. As with Shakespeare's Lady MacBeth, you may finding yourself wrestling with a darned stain all over your hands. And like Lady MacBeth, you may find scrubbing to be of no avail. Unlike Lady MacBeth, your cure is just one more washing away. You don't have to live with this stain forever.

Step 1

Spritz some glass cleaning spray unto your fingers and scrub with your fingertips or the clean toothbrush.

Step 2

Drop 1 tsp. shortening onto your hand and scrub the stain with your fingertips, if it is still there. Some ink may be stubborn. Don't scrub hard enough to damage your skin. Continue scrubbing your skin until the stain is removed.

Step 3

Wash your hands with soap. Rinse and dry.
