How to Decrease Breast Size After Baby’s Birth

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

When you are pregnant, you will probably find that your breasts have grown quite a bit. In fact, some women may need to move up several bra sizes. While some women are excited about having bigger breasts, others are more than ready to return to their normal size.

Step 1

Understand that this is not your final breast size. Many women assume that the breasts they have directly after the baby’s birth are theirs to keep. Most of the time, this is not true. In fact, if you’re breastfeeding, your breast size is sure to decrease once you’ve weaned your child off the breast. The milk will no longer fill the glands in your breasts, allowing them to return to their normal size. So expect your breast size to decrease once your body has completely returned to normal and you have stopped breastfeeding.

Step 2

Start a great new exercise plan. Another thing that reduces breast size is exercise. Since most of the breast volume is fatty tissue, losing weight will also help you decrease your breast size. You should focus on fat-burning exercises and limit your sugar intake so that you will reduce more of your body fat. When you begin to tone and shape your body, you will notice that your breast size also decreases. This is simply the reduction of the fatty tissue present in your breasts.

Step 3

Try breast reduction supplements or pills. Many of these supplements contain herbs which naturally balance out the female hormones, often reducing breast size. Others, like Alexia, are taken one or two times a day and claim to burn excess fat in the mammary glands which inevitably decreases breast size. Research is required in order to ensure that the supplements are safe–and as always, you should check with your doctor first. This is especially true if you are still breastfeeding, since many herbs will travel through your breast milk to your baby.

Step 4

Try breast reduction exercises. There are also specific exercises which target the breasts and help you tone them, reducing the amount of fat which is present. For instance, both push-ups and chin-ups will help build your pectoral muscle, toning the breasts and removing the fat. While this will only be a small decrease, it will reduce the size some. With the toning, you will find that your breasts are firmer and may even become perkier.

Step 5

Try breast reduction surgery. If you’re really unhappy with your larger breasts, breast reduction surgery could be an option for you. Basically, some of the fatty tissue is removed, making the breasts smaller. However, this surgery is not for everyone. This is something that should be discussed with your doctor before you make a decision. If you would like to find a qualified physician in your area, ask for referrals from your primary care physician or visit sites like www.locateadoc.com, a site that provides you with comprehensive information about plastic surgeons specializing in breast reduction.
