There is a world so esoteric to twins, even twins can’t explain it! The bond between twins has been studied for years and, even at this stage, only so many questions can be answered.
According to everydayhealth.com, one pair of twins featured in Debbie LaChusa’s Twin Connections: Stories That Celebrate the Mysterious Bond Between Twins wrote, “We speak to each other in a language no one else can understand, nor can we enlighten them. We didn’t realize this until we were 6 or 7 years old when someone pointed it out.”

It is this unexplainable link between twin siblings that may soothe the sadness (or worsen it) of Hawk and Mason. These two brothers were born prematurely on the 18th of August at Fort Pierce, Florida.
Hawk received a grim diagnosis. Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) is a rare condition in which the diaphragm does not fully form and prohibits growth of the lung.

The day before Hawk was taken into a dangerous surgery, Mason was restless. The boys had been separated for 11 days and one nurse decided to lay the boys next to one another.
Researchers have studied 3D ultrasound videos of five sets of twins in the womb. 14 week old fetuses, cared for at the University of Padova in Italy, seemed to reach out to one another.

By the time the fetuses in the study aged 18 weeks, they stroked each other with increasing frequency. They would maintain intentional physical contact approximately 30% of the time.
After the Mason was placed next to his brother, the mother, Brandy, later said, “So, we laid him there and all of a sudden, as soon as he felt Hawk, he reached his arm out and grabbed him and just started to smile. The two of them knew they were there for each other.”

The photo of the two brothers reunited will simultaneous warm and break your heart. Mason’s smile displays such innocent relief it’s beautifully unbearable.
To the devastation of the family, Hawk did not survive. The family wrote on their Facebook page,“Our hearts are saddened this morning as our sweet little man was called home to be with Jesus. He went very peacefully, and we know he’s no longer suffering. Please give us some time to grieve and try to start the healing process.”

The unthinkable, crushing pain of witnessing the death of a child leaves so many of us speechless. No matter when it happens, the sadness never actually lessens. It is so important for friends of grieving families to share the space with the mourners without offering pithy, insensitive comments (to include, “at least you have other children.”) Hawk will be remembered and so desperately loved and missed.
