Summer Sugar Expedition

Royers Round Top Cafe

You know you are a Sugar Momma when…you take your seven year old on a road trip through the South in search of sugar Nirvana. Little Reiner and I flew to Texas and rented a car. “Strap in,” I said, we are on our way.

This was our rental (JUST JOKING!)

First stop…. Opie’s BBQ in Spicewood, Texas.  No BBQ meal is complete without dessert and Opie’s did not disappoint! We had a blackberry cobbler that knocked my socks off.   I am not sure what ingredient they put in to thicken the fruit juices – cornstarch, tapioca, or flour – but the fruit was gooey delicious and not drippy thin.  It was thick and stuck to the topping and crust so each bite was complete.  I think I ate the entire cobbler.  If I only had a cooler, I would have taken a peach cobbler with me on the road in case I got a hunger pang.

Next we headed south and stopped in at Royers Round Top Café, in Round Top, Texas, to visit with our new friend “BUD the pieman” and Tara his daughter, “the pie queen.”

Bud’s Motto is “After 23 years we’re still telling you to “Sit Down! Shut Up! & Eat Mo’ Pie!!!” We were happy to obey.

We meandered our way to Houston and found a novel store concept that was a Candy-Disneyland cross-breed. We were transported to candy fantasia. Check out Candylicious where Barbie and friends come to life as pop rocks, taffy, and colored pipe cleaners.

After munching our way through the great state of Texas, we hopped on the highway and headed to Louisiana.  Stay tuned.

The Family Holiday Dinner Survival Guide

We just survived a holiday with my in-laws, and when I say in-laws I dont just mean Daddy-os parents – I mean ALL of the in-laws. At the top of the family pecking order is the grand matriarch, Oma. She has five grown kids, one of whom is Daddy-o. The total headcount for this communal holiday was: 1 Oma, 10 adults, and 17 grandchildren under the age of 13 years old.

2020 Holiday Gift Guide

This year the holidays are different with family celebrations smaller and less friend get-togethers, but that doesn’t mean that gift gifting can’t still be ah-mazing! We’ve included unique gift ideas for everyone
