BBQ Sausage Recipe
Barbecued sausage can be a versatile dish. You can slice the grilled sausage and serve it with pasta and sauted peppers for an Italian-inspired dish or you can place the cooked sausage on a bun as you would a hot dog. Pair the sausage with chunks of pineapple for a dish with a tropical flair or with roasted potatoes for a down-home, meat and potatoes meal. If you don't have a grill, you can cook the meat in a cast iron skillet or in the oven.

BBQ Sausage Recipe

Barbecued sausage can be a versatile dish. You can slice the grilled sausage and serve it with pasta and sautéed peppers for an Italian-inspired dish or you can place the cooked sausage on a bun as you would a hot dog. Pair the sausage with chunks of pineapple for a dish with a tropical flair or with roasted potatoes for a down-home, meat and potatoes meal. If you don’t have a grill, you can cook the meat in a cast iron skillet or in the oven.

Step 1

Heat the saucepan over medium heat. Pour in 2 tbsp. vegetable oil, and let it heat for a minute. Add the chopped onion and cook for five minutes, until soft. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Do not burn the garlic.

Step 2

Pour the ketchup, water, vinegar, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce into the pan. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Bring the sauce to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for as little as 15 minutes or up to an hour. The longer the sauce simmers, the deeper and more developed its flavors will be.

Step 3

Add salt, pepper and hot sauce to taste.

Step 4

Heat the grill to medium heat. If baking in the oven, heat to 350 degrees F. If cooking on the stove, place the cast iron skillet on the burner and heat at medium.

Step 5

Grill or cook sausage on the stove for five to seven minutes, until browned. Pour or brush the sauce evenly over the sausages. Turn and continue to cook until the sauce has become shiny.

Step 6

Place the sausage in the baking dish if using your oven. Pour the sauce over top and turn the sausage links several times to coat evenly. Bake for 40 minutes, turning the links once during cooking.
