Don’t deprive yourself through the holidays~
How many of you are going through the holidays anxious and nervous to not gain extra weight and feel depressed come the New Year? It is hard to find a balance where you can enjoy yourself and also stay focused. It is not helpful to feel panicked right now, or you will lose the opportunity to enjoy this time of year. I am a big believer in moderation and planning ahead. I have already hosted several parties with cookies and appetizers and it took a lot of will power not to eat the entire plate of extra chocolatey brownies.

I know myself pretty well by now, and the feelings and disappointment I would feel come January if I ate my way through the holidays is simply not worth it to me. I would rather stay focused and give up extra treats to feel good in a month. Notice that I said extra treats, not all treats. I think you should allow yourself treats in mod eration so that you don’t feel like you are depriving yourself. You simply need to view the holidays like any other day, which means keep to your regular schedule. Don’t put exercise aside and presume you will start right back up in January. I know in the past I have tried skipping meals in preparation for a holiday party. I told myself if I skipped a meal I could eat a little more at the party. What happens though is you go to the party starving and end up eating more than you would have had you simply eaten regular healthy meals throughout the day. Here is some advice to get you through the next month.

ACTION TIPS FOR THE WEEK:
1. Daily exercise
If you commit to getting some form of exercise into your life during the holidays, you will feel much better when January rolls around. Exercise will boost your morale and offer some protection from sickness and drops in energy. It will also allow you to enjoy some goodies without the guilt.
2. Don’t deprive yourself
When you deprive yourself of any treats, you will ultimately binge or eat in excess. Now is not the time to cut out sugar or carbs completely from your diet. You can enjoy treats in moderation and still stick to your healthy regimine. Deprivation is the quickest way to overeating. You do not need to be extreme during the holidays.
3. Prepare ahead of time
Planning ahead will always go in your favor. If you are preparing to go to a party, take some precautions. Eat something healthy and filling ahead of time. Drink lots of water before the party. Bring your own healthy dish so that you are guaranteed to have a healthy alternative to all the other dishes.
