My first entry…
So, I just joined Modern Mom today. I figured I'd make my first blog entry pretty simple; just a little introduction of myself and my life. Let's see...where to start. I'm about to turn 32 (I don't like that number; let's swap it around!.) I have 2 sons, ages 9 and 7. They both have ADHD, and I suspect my 7 year old also has some sort of sensory integration disorder.

My first entry…

So, I just joined Modern Mom today. I figured I’d make my first blog entry pretty simple; just a little introduction of myself and my life.

Let’s see…where to start.

I’m about to turn 32 (I don’t like that number; let’s swap it around!.) I have 2 sons, ages 9 and 7. They both have ADHD, and I suspect my 7 year old also has some sort of sensory integration disorder.

I’m also a single (mostly!) mother. I divorced my first husband when my oldest was 2.5 and my youngest was 20 days old. I met my boyfriend a little over a year ago, and although he is quite involved in my kids lives, we are not married yet. My children’s father has no active role in their lives, by his own choice.

I have a ton of hobbies, and don’t get to indulge in them nearly as often as I’d like. I love to read, and will read pretty much anything. I love to write, as well, and have my own website. I hope to eventually make enough money at it to actually be able to legitimately call it my career (I’m currently a stay at home mom.) I also love photography. If I can’t call writing my career, then I’d love to be able to call photography my career. Cooking and baking are yet another thing I love to do, although if I indulged in that one the way I’d like to, my entire family would gain about 300 lbs in a month.

One of my more recent hobbies is web development. I’ve begun learning HTML and CSS, and next up is Java and PHP (I have no idea what those last two are yet, but I hope to soon!). I’d found it semi-interesting before, but had this idea that it was…well, kind of like accounting or something, where there are strict rules to follow and no creativity to it. I’ve now discovered just how wrong that thought was. I love the creativity afforded by it, and I think it’s so cool to type in a bunch of words and symbols and have them turn into a really pretty webpage.

My boyfriend is a truck driver. He’s gone much more than he’s home; in some ways that’s nice, and others, not so much. It can be nice in the sense that I can watch whatever I want on TV in bed at night, and I can cook whatever I want. Oh, and if I don’t want to shave, I don’t have to. I theoretically get a ton of time to pretty much do whatever I want, without having to worry about consulting him or what his plans might be. But it also isn’t so nice because I sleep alone most nights, and I worry about something bad happening to him on the road, and of course, he’s not here to help out with…well, anything. But, I’m a fairly independent woman, so most things that crop up are things I can handle. If I can’t, I either learn, find someone who can, or wait for him to get home and take care of it. We’ve been together for a little over a year now, and though things were rough last year, we’re hoping this year will be better.

So, that’s me. If that didn’t scare you off, then come back and read some of the other stuff I’ll eventually be blogging about.

The Family Holiday Dinner Survival Guide

We just survived a holiday with my in-laws, and when I say in-laws I dont just mean Daddy-os parents – I mean ALL of the in-laws. At the top of the family pecking order is the grand matriarch, Oma. She has five grown kids, one of whom is Daddy-o. The total headcount for this communal holiday was: 1 Oma, 10 adults, and 17 grandchildren under the age of 13 years old.
