Tips on Removing Facial Hair

Facial hair is a potentially embarrassing occurrence for many women who endure this all-too-common problem. Fortunately, several at-home and professional methods exist that allow women to safely remove facial hair, according to the Mayo Clinic. Learning the ins and outs of common female facial hair removal methods can help you make the beauty and financial decision that is right for your busy lifestyle.

Plucking

This is one of the quickest ways for women to privately remove unwanted facial hair, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, getting out that tweezer is not recommended for large areas of hair; keep in mind that plucking even small areas of hair can be potentially painful, especially in sensitive facial areas such as the upper lip. Also, tweezing usually doesn’t last very long, and you might end up with one or more ingrown hairs.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a semi-permanent method that can eventually banish that unwanted facial hair from existence by slowing its growth, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, you may need to purchase several treatments from a qualified professional before this will fully take effect. Also, laser hair removal is more effective on women with light skin and darker hair and is not considered a permanent hair removal remedy.

Waxing

You can use at-home wax kits or visit a professional salon to pull that facial hair out of your life, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, hot wax can burn you, so you might prefer to visit a salon to have this delicate procedure. Also, waxing is not permanent and can cause some pain and redness as basic side effects.

Bleaching

Bleaching doesn’t remove that facial hair from your body but lightens its pigment significantly when performed correctly, according to the Mayo Clinic. A number of bleaching kits are sold in retail stores and on the Internet; always check to make sure the kit you select is safe to use on the face and follow those directions carefully to avoid potentially nasty side effects.

Depilatory Creams

Some depilatory creams are designed to be used on the face, according to the Mayo Clinic. Like any product you buy over-the-counter, be sure to check it out carefully to make sure you’re not going to apply a leg cream to your face. Some treatments also come in gel or lotion form. Whatever type you select, spread it onto the skin of the affected area; the ingredients break down the structure of the hair shaft to dissolve that facial hair. However, remember that some people are allergic to depilatory creams, so proceed carefully if you’ve never tried this before.
