Weekend in Wine Country – Without the kids!

A trip to Wine Country is bliss. I mean what’s not to like about sleeping in, delicous food and some of the best wines in the world? Do yourself some good this summer and make a special trip to the darling town of Healdsburg, one of my favorite spots to just get away from it all …

Check-In

Hotel Healdsburg is very well what paradise might look like. Wildly sophisticated and boldly sleek, with every aesthetic detail in place and every creature comfort imaginable, this is the spot for those looking for a relaxing retreat to call home for the night. Read more about Hotel Healdsburg.

Fuel Before You Go

Simple, delicious and utterly satisfying, Costeaux French Bakery & Café gets it just right. Chat with the locals on the patio and savor a truly decadent cappuccino before heading out (417 Healdsburg Avenue; http://www.costeaux.com/; 707-433-1913).

Picnic Goods

Stop by Oakville Grocery to assemble your dream picnic. Lined with fabulous foods and wines, many of which are produced nearby, you’ll quickly find this isn’t your average country store. (124 Matheson St., Healdsburg; 707-433-3200). Read more about Oakville Grocery.

Wineries Not To Be Missed

Alexander Valley:  Versailles-style Jordan Winery (1474 Alexander Valley Rd., Healdsburg; 800-654-1213; http://www.jordanwinery.com). This is one of the most beautiful spots in Wine Country, and the sublime full-bodied 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon only enhances the pleasure of being here.

Dry Creak: Michel-Schlumberger (4155 Wine Creek Rd., Healdsburg; 800-447-3060; http://www.michelschlumberger.com) is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth it. Tastings also include artisan cheese and wine pairings. While all the wines are good, their specialty is Bordeaux blends. Beautiful

Ferrari-Carano (8761 Dry Creek Rd., Healdsburg; 707-433-6700; http://www.ferrari-carano.com) should not be missed. Stroll through five acres of exquisite gardens before hitting up the tasting bar to sample a few choice nationally acclaimed wines. Read more about my favorite Wine spots.

A Must Before You Go

Reserve a table at Cyrus (29 North St., Healdsburg; 707-433-3311; www.cyrusrestaurant.com), the darling of the Valley’s fine-dining scene. They’ve mastered the delicate balance of breathtakingly refined cuisine and a friendly, un-stuffy ambience, making it easy to truly relax and enjoy every bit of the experience.

She has five grown kids, one of whom is Daddy-o. The total headcount for this communal holiday was: 1 Oma, 10 adults, and 17 grandchildren under the age of 13 years old.
