Homemade Tie Cards for Father’s Day

For generations, children have been giving their dads ties for Father’s Day – and now your kids can make a homemade tie card to match!

This “buttoned-up” card is sure to bring a smile to any dad’s face.

Supplies

  • Card stock
  • Colored paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Buttons

Directions

Cut a piece of cardstock into a rectangle – 12 inches by 4 and 1/2 inches. Fold the cardstock in half lengthwise (you should then have a rectangle that’s 6 inches by 4 and 1/2 inches.)

Cut a tie shape that is approximately three inches long.

Holding your rectangle with the folded seam at the top, glue your tie shape approximately 1 inch below the top of the card.

Then measure an inch down from the top of the card and cut two slits on either side – approximately an inch and a half into the card.

Fold the two flaps to the front, with the top corners overlapping slightly. This should look like a men’s button up-shirt with a collar.

Almost done!

Glue the folded corners down and add button embellishments.

Last but not least, glue the two pieces of paper together, and then write a message on the back. If you want to get really fancy, you can cut a piece of white paper and glue to the back for a more professional look.

Happy Father’s Day!
