How to Make a Birthday Party Invitation

Making your own birthday party invitation gives you the opportunity to use your creative side and make something that truly portrays the party’s theme. You don’t have to be exceptionally crafty to make a party invitation that is attractive and draws attention. A basic design can be used for almost any theme, is easy to put together and needs only a few inexpensive supplies.

Step 1

Choose a theme for the birthday party and have that be your guide for the birthday card design. This design example uses a puppy theme, but it can be adapted to most any birthday theme, such as cats, dinosaurs, flowers, bugs or babies.

Step 2

Use thick construction paper for a background. In pencil, draw out the shape and then cut the shape out. For a puppy theme, the background can be a light brown-colored dog house, a simple rectangle with a roof.

Step 3

Attach foam stickers to the background. For a puppy theme, these can include puppies, bones and balls. Foam stickers can be found at almost any craft or scrapbooking store.

Step 4

Use a calligraphy pen or marker to write, “It’s a Party” or “You’re Invited” on the front of the invitation. On the back of the invitation, write all the party information, such as the date, time, place and RSVP. With a calligraphy pen, your writing will look nice, even if your penmanship is not the best.

Step 5

Measure the invitation’s width and length. You will need this information to buy envelopes that the invitation will fit into.
