How to Avoid Stretch Marks From Losing Weight

Stretch marks are scars the body develops when the skin is stretched from gaining weight and during pregnancy. When a person loses weight, the stretch marks are more visible and can be embarrassing for the person who suffers with them. These tips and suggestions will help you avoid stretch marks and keep your skin smooth, clear and beautiful.

Step 1

Change your diet to avoid stretch marks. Many foods provide hydration to your skin and increase elasticity, helping the skin to stretch more easily without developing stretch marks. You should drink 8 glasses of water each day and eat omega 3 fatty acids like the ones found in fresh fish. Consume at least 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables each day to gain the nutrients and plethora of vitamins available in them. You should also know that caffeine will increase your chances of developing stretch marks, so you should avoid it as much as possible.

Step 2

Use moisturizer frequently. Dry skin will develop stretch marks easily, so it’s important to keep your skin moisturized and more elastic. Hydrating lotions that keep the skin moist will keep you from developing stretch marks as badly. Consider Vaseline Intensive Care lotion or something that moisturizes deeply the way this lotion does. Apply the lotion at least once a day to ensure that your skin is well moisturized and more resistant to stretch marks.

Step 3

Treat your existing stretch marks. Along with the moisturizer, there are a few different things that you should apply to your skin in order to avoid stretch marks while losing weight. Rub on pure, unrefined Shea butter to keep the skin hydrated and to provide the skin with a rich dose of antioxidants. Shea butter melts at the temperature of your skin and will go on silky and smooth without feeling greasy. Cocoa butter is notorious for helping prevent stretch marks as well. Also, apply vitamin E oil to counter stretchy skin and keep it from developing stretch marks.

Step 4

Massage the skin. Massage your skin frequently in the areas you’re most worried about stretch marks. You should do this at least once a day, as massaging stimulates blood flow and good circulation. Massage with your fingertips in circular motions and cover the entire area of skin you’re most concerned about—whether it’s your stomach, hips or breasts. This increases the oxygen this area of your body receives and will help keep the skin healthier and more elastic.

Step 5

Don’t neglect exercise. Exercise regularly and ensure that you get a great cardiovascular workout. You should get at least 30 minutes of cardio workout every 2 days in order to maintain your health and great skin. This will help increase blood flow to all parts of your body and it’s amazing for your skin. Not only is it great for you as you’re losing weight, but it will help you avoid stretch marks while you’re losing weight.
