Tips for Wrinkles on the Neck

Whether wrinkles are already gathering on your neck or you’re taking a defensive approach before they appear, simple steps can improve the appearance of your neck skin. Many factors determine where and how many wrinkles will appear on a your body, including on your neck.

Skin Care Routine

To prevent wrinkles on your neck, keep the skin care routine moving downward. Apply the same cleanser, toner and moisturizer to your neck as you do your face. This helps remove all of the dirt and grime that accumulates throughout the day. It also provides the moisture the skin on your neck needs to avoid wrinkling. If it makes the job easier, keep your cleanser in the bathtub so you can wash your neck in the shower.

Sunscreen

A good sunscreen is essential on all skin that is exposed to the sun. The neck is sometimes forgotten when the sunscreen is applied because it doesn’t tend to get the same degree of sunburn as arms, legs and face. Your neck can still receive the harmful rays from the sun so don’t be afraid to slather on the sunscreen on the front and back of the neck.

Diet and Exercise

A healthy diet and exercise play an important role in maintaining the appearance of all skin, including the skin on your neck. Fill your diet with healthy food choices to provide the nutrients needed to keep your skin looking young. Exercise keeps your muscles toned, which can prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Choose a variety of exercises that work all muscle groups, including the neck area. In addition to building muscles, exercise rids the body of toxins, which can improve the appearance of the skin.

Posture

Your posture in regard to head and neck positioning may lead to wrinkles in the area. Avoid looking down at a laptop screen, desk or other low areas frequently. The skin in the neck area may begin to crease, forming more wrinkles. Reposition work surfaces so your head is raised, eliminating the creases in the neck skin. Pay close attention to how you hold your head and neck throughout the day, taking as many opportunities as possible to hold your head high.

Wrinkle Cream

Many special wrinkle formula creams are available for the skin. If neck wrinkles are a problem already, consider using one of these skin creams on the neck area. These creams are more likely to be effective for minor wrinkles in the beginning stages.

Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is a drastic measure to help reduce or eliminate neck wrinkles that already exist. Plastic surgery, chemical peels and botox injections are often used for cosmetic elimination of wrinkles. While these options are effective in many women, it is likely the results won’t last. More wrinkles may form as you age. The risks of these procedures are important to evaluate before deciding on this option. Most women consider plastic surgery a last result.
