Many individuals experience hair loss. Often, hair loss is a temporary symptom of an illness, poor diet, stress, medical treatments and drugs. Some types of hair loss are permanent. Whether your hair loss occurs because of genetics, chemotherapy or a temporary illness, keeping your locks looking their best can boost your confidence and improve your appearance.
Pamper your thinning locks with gentle shampoos and conditioners. Avoid shampoos that contain harsh detergents, such as clarifying shampoos. Ingredients like menthol, camphor, alcohol and salicylic acid can cause damage to fragile hair. Use a conditioner to detangle your hair and replace lost moisture. Make sure you rinse out all traces of your shampoos and conditioners.
Pamper Your Locks
Dry your hair with a microfiber towel. Gently press the towel over your wet hair to pull the moisture from the strands. Do not rub or buff your hair dry. Gently detangle your hair with a wide-tooth comb or a hair pick. Allow your hair to dry naturally, whenever possible. Use a soft bristle brush and avoid pulling or stretching your hair, especially when it is wet. Avoid harsh chemical treatments, such as permanent waves, highlighting and bleaching processes.
Turn Off the Heat
Heat appliances can damage hair, especially stressed, thinning strands of hair. If time allows, avoid heated appliances for drying, curling and styling your hair. If you must use these appliances, set the heating control on a low setting and apply a hair product designed to create a protective barrier between your hair and the appliance.
Learn to Relax
Stress hormones can affect the health of your hair and may lead to thinning and baldness. Make time for relaxing activities, such as reading, yoga or meditation. Reduce any unnecessary activities that cause stress and anxiety. Learn to simplify your life and enjoy your time with pleasant endeavors.
Balance Your Diet
A poor diet can cause a myriad of health problems, including hair loss. Diets that contain excessive amounts of animal fats and minimal amounts of vitamins and nutrients may cause your hair to become thin. Consume a diet rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.
