Simple Shoulder-Length Hairstyles

The versatility of shoulder-length hair, also known as medium-length hair, makes it a desirable hair length. It is not as high maintenance as long hair, but it has enough hair to work with compared with short hair. It also works for any shape of face. Opt for simpler hairstyles for your shoulder-length hair to avoid spending too much time in front of the mirror.

Braided Hairstyle

Creating a basic braid to use as a headband is a simple way to style your medium-length hair without using too many accessories. The braided medium-length hairstyle is also something you can do in less than five minutes. First, brush your hair to remove knots and tangles. Then, part your hair on one side. Separate one 2-inch wide section of hair from the top. Do a basic braid by dividing that section into two (left and right), and then weave right over left and left over right. Leave at least an inch at the end, and secure with a small elastic band. Fastening the braid on one side with a hair clip will keep it in place.

Choppy Cut

Chopping strands of hair helps create a blunt appearance or a choppy hairstyle. Chops appearing in all areas of the hair, including the fringes or bangs, give this hairstyle a rugged finish. Style your hair on the sides toward the front of your face behind the cheeks to reveal your jaw line and cheek bones.

Shoulder-Length Bob Cut

Cut your hair at shoulder level instead of the chin level, which is the usual length of a classic bob cut. Creating soft layers around the top and front of the hair gives the shoulder-length bob cut a softer edge while adding body and shape to the ends. Creating fringes and sweeping those sideways makes it blend well with the layers on the sides.

Messy Updo

A messy updo is a style that is ideal if you have not shampooed your hair for at least one day. Use your fingers to gather your hair from the front to the back. Pull your hair to the back of your head either low, near the nape of the neck or high on the head. Then, tie it with an elastic band to form a ponytail. Lift the tail part of your hair, and wrap it around the base of the ponytail. Secure it in place with bobby pins. Applying light-hold hair spray will help keep the updo intact.
