Most girls just love fashion and makeup. From an early age, young girls develop a love affair with clothes, accessories, colors, glosses, powders and sprays. The next time you have a houseful of girls, let them use their femininity and play some fashion and makeup games. They can be as messy or as organized as you want. Either way, you are sure to thrill the little designers around you.
Creative
If you need to entertain a several little designers for a long time, a creative designing game may be just the ticket. A designing game encourages kids to use their creativity and to make something out of the ordinary. Give kids a stack of newspapers, packing paper, rolls of cheap fabric or other bulk, cheap items. Give them tape, glue, scissors and plenty of accessories. You can give them a theme or let them be as creative as they work. Themes may include animals, ball gowns or costumes. Let the kids know that they have 30 minutes, or longer, to create an outfit or a line of outfits. Set up a runway and host a fashion show with their designs. Award winners for the best use of the products, most creative, most whimsical and most ridiculous.
Guessing
Play a type of charades that allows kids to design the outfit the other team needs to guess. You might give the kids a basket of outfits to choose from or let them design their own out of newspaper and accessories. Choose a category, such as literature characters, famous people or different career fields. Each team will get a topic and work for 10 minutes or so to design an outfit for that topic. The other team will have to guess the topic based on the outfit. If you are feeling really adventurous, you can give kids some cheap makeup to play with. This works best for older girls who have better fine-motor skills.
Relays
Put together a fashionable dress-up outfit for each team. This might include high heels, a fancy dress, gloves, a necklace, clip-on earrings and some bracelets. Set each outfit on one side of the room or yard and place the girls on the other side. At the word “go,” girls can race to the other side of the room, put on their outfits and race back across the room. There they will have to give the outfit to the next player. The first team to let everyone race with the outfit wins. To create an even greater challenge, each person has to put on a certain makeup application, be it blush, mascara or lipstick, before she can hand-over her outfit.
