Organizing a kid’s room seems easy…until you walk in the next day to find it completely disheveled! California Closets has a few awesome tips for moms who want their children’s rooms to stay clean and neat for as long as possible.
Rods and shelving should be low enough to reach; an adjustable system will change along with the child?s needs.
Utilize pull-out baskets in a closet or shelving unit for small toys. These make it fun and easy to clean up. Make sure these are situated at a low level so that the child can easily reach them and learn how to be responsible for keeping his or her room organized and clean.
Purchase small boxes and label them with printed photos (or get clear storage containers) for smaller items such as Barbie clothes, Legos, and Tinker Toys.
For organizing clothing, separate like items into sections and stack in plastic bins or on open shelving. E.g. Short-sleeved onesies in one stack and long-sleeve onesies in another stack. This makes it easy to dress the baby/child to fit by weather.
Utilize storage bins and/or extra shelves to store clothes that the baby has not yet grown into. You can label a bin with the next size, and then switch out as you grow out of sizes. When utilizing shelves in a closet, you can rotate sizes downward where they are more easily accessible.
Baby and toddler clothes are small, so you can hang more than one item on a hanger. You can also use a hanger with different levels of clips to hang many different types of clothing.
Folding clothing takes up less space than hanging them. Consider stacks instead of hanging sets of clothes.
Purchase (or install) smaller drawers for organizing small items such as socks, hair clips, hats, and gloves. Custom closets can incorporate drawers with built-in dividers for these items. As the child grows, the dividers can be moved to accommodate his or her varying needs.
