How to Clean Stained Ceramic Tile

December 10, 2010 by ds_784 Leave a Comment

Ceramic tile is tough and durable, but like most surfaces it can be stained. If you’ve moved a bucket, appliance or piece of furniture only to find an unsightly stain where it was sitting, there’s no need to panic. While ceramic is porous, you can lift the stain from the ceramic tile and once again have a gleaming floor.

Step 1

Mix 1/8 cup scouring powder with one tbsp. water, stirring until the mixture is a thick, lump-free paste.

Step 2

Put paste on a paper towel and rub the mixture in an even layer over the entire stain. You can rub with your fingers if you prefer, but wipe your fingers clean before proceeding.

Step 3

Place a paper towel over the area and allow to stand for 10 minutes. The paper towel will hold the moisture and prevent the paste from drying out while it is absorbing the stain.

Step 4

Scrub the paste into the stain, using a soft-bristled brush in a circular, overlapping motion.

Step 5

Rinse the area, taking care to remove all scouring paste residue.

Step 6

Repeat the process if the stain is still visible.
