Great Jobs for Pregnant Women

Whether you currently have a job or are in the market for a new one, keep your pregnancy in mind as you evaluate the position. Not every job is ideal for a pregnant woman. Keep your health and your baby’s health at the top of your priorities as you analyze your job.

Support

To be successful while pregnant in any job, you need to have support of others. If your partner is in agreement that this is a good job for you, it will be easier to work it into your schedule. Your boss and coworkers should also be supportive of your working while you are pregnant as well. They will be more understanding of morning sickness and doctors’ appointments.

Take It Easy

The best jobs for pregnant women involve moderate, light to no physical labor. Strenuous work could be unhealthy for you and the baby and will tire you which can only make your exhaustion and nausea worse. You shouldn’t be lifting heavy objects or standing all day. The best job will allow you to sit or take breaks periodically.

Flexibility

Before accepting a position, or even if you are already working, look into the company’s pregnancy and maternity policies. Make sure there are opportunities to rest, time to go to appointments and the flexibility to take time off when the morning sickness or otherwise becomes too much. A rigid schedule can bring on too much stress to an expecting mother.

Honesty

If you feel the need or pressure to hide your pregnancy, the job is probably not going to be a good fit. A good job should let your talk freely about your pregnancy. The best jobs will include a supervisor who can talk with you about options of working from home or flexible hours. If you are worried about losing your job if he finds out about your pregnancy, this probably isn’t the job for you. If you are nervous, approach it as soon as you can. The sooner you can be upfront with your news, the better.

Uniform

Many jobs require specific uniforms, even if they are just aprons or other items on top of every day clothes. The best jobs for pregnant women should include uniform options for pregnant women. This might include maternity options or adjustable uniforms.

Leave

Keep in mind that you won’t be pregnant forever. Look ahead to the future, such as maternity leave options. Find out how long the leave is, whether it will be paid and how much you might miss while you are gone.
