Simple tips on lifting your mood NOW~

October 11, 2010 by lesliefaith Leave a Comment

Life is crazy busy and many times this craziness affects your mood and well-being. Whether work is dragging you down, or a relationship has gone sour, or you simply have no time to rejuvenate yourself, we all need a boost every now and then to put a smile back on our faces. I know that at times I can become so preoccupied with work and all the balls I am juggling in the air, that I don’t even realize I am grumpy or irritated. However, my husband will usually remind me when this happens:) I have gotten better over the years, recognizing when too much is too much, and I tap into my tool kit of remedies to make me feel better.

I think it is most important to know yourself inside and out. Know what triggers your stress and then come up with options of what will help you combat them. There will always be situations you can try to avoid and then life will throw you experiences that you can’t predict. What you can do however, is pull out your tool kit and be proactive in how you respond and react to stress. Here are some simple tips to get you started:

1. Get some sunshine and fresh air

The first tip in boosting your mood is to make sure you get enough sunlight and fresh air. Open your shades. Pull your desk by a window. Take a ten minute walk in the middle of the day. I know firsthand what a difference sunshine can make. I leave my office and desk practically every day to take a walk with my husband and dog. It lifts my mood, relieves some stress and re-energizes me.

2. Get rid of clutter

Another great tip for boosting your mood is to spend a short amount of time clearing away the clutter. Just looking at clutter and piles adds more stress and reminds you of everything that hasn’t been done yet. Throw junk away. Wipe down the counters. Have a place for everything. Getting rid of clutter simply feels good and elevates your mood. Whether you have five minutes or twenty minutes, do what you can.

3. Socialize with a friend or neighbor

When you are in a funk or stressed out, reach out to a cheerful and uplifting friend. Surrounding yourself by positive people makes you feel better. You take on their energy as your own. It is contagious. Getting together regularly with good friends will help keep the stress at bay. If you are frazzled this week, call a friend and meet for coffee or a quick walk. Meet for a cocktail or just touch base over the phone.
