Modern Beauty: 15 Minute Makeup
Putting on your makeup in the morning doesn’t have to be time-consuming or stressful. Ashunta Sheriff, celebrity makeup artist and mom of two, gives us her top tips to a quick, fresh face. |
5 Tips to a Fresh Face:
Step 1. Primer: always use a primer to secure long-lasting makeup throughout the day. Primer also tones down a ruddy complexion or redness and evens out skins texture so makeup can smoothly go on skin. |
Primer goes on best when applied by hands. Squeeze a dime-sized amount into palm of the hands and smooth on.
Recommended product: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
Multi-tasking Products: I am a firm believer that products that multi-task save time, save money and most importantly, get the job done.

Step 2. Tinted Moisturizer: Instead of the typical moisturizer, sunblock, foundation and concealer why not cut that list in half by using a tinted moisturizer. Tinted moisturizer gives great coverage, contains moisturizer so skin is hydrated and adds SPF to protect skin from UV rays. |
Use concealer only where needed around red areas, discolorations, blemishes or dark circles. In order to achieve an even look, use a wedge sponge for light coverage and foundation brush for smooth, medium coverage.
Recommended products: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – I suggest getting it in a half shade darker than your skin tone so you have a glow. Paula Dorf Perfect Primer is the best concealer for difficult circles and blemishes.
Tools:
Paula Dorf Foundation Brush or standard wedge sponges.
Step 3. Multi-tasking cheeks, lips and eyes: I know it seems crazy but there are cream blushes that are not just for cheeks. They can be used on eyes and lips to create soft, monochromatic looks that are effortless and perfect for busy moms. Use fingers or a synthetic fiber brush – because of the cream texture synthetic brushes are much better to use.
Suggestions: Nars Multiple Sticks are fantastic purchase ladies! They come in an array of colors and can be used pretty much anywhere. Pick a color that you love – like Copacabana for fair skin tones or Laguna for medium tones – to create a warm, youthful glow.
Step 4. Lip Gloss: Use gloss instead of liner and lipstick…unless you are a super-refined type and, hey, if that’s what you like then go for it! But, if you are trying to get kids ready for preschool, breakfast on the table and get out the door like me, there’s just no time for it. I always go for gloss that has a hint of color to make lips look supple, soft and juicy. Adding this gloss on top of the cream blush will make lips last longer because of the layering.

Fair: Nars Orgasm
Medium: Dior Kiss Strawberry Tartlet
Deep or Dark: Dior Kiss Spicy Guava
Step 5. Brows. Lastly, make sure you complete the look with by filling in your brows. Many women do not realize that applying a brow gel (which come in a variety of colors to match) will frame and sculpt your face. If you have faint thin brows invest in an angled brow brush and an eye shadow that matches your hair and simply trace the natural shape of your brows.
Final tip! Translucent Powder: Always set makeup with a translucent powder. I love Vincent Longo’s because it works on any complexion. It’s also a good idea to have a compact for touch-ups later in ther day.
Product Suggestion: Vincent Longo Translucent Powder
