Herbal Face Mask Recipes

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Throughout history, women have used face masks to revitalize their complexions and produce a natural glow. Fortunately, you probably already own many of the ingredients that are the basis for making an all-natural, homemade face mask. Your concoction has the added benefit of being free of the additives, fillers, fragrances, artificial colors and chemicals that many drugstore and designer brands of face masks contain, all of which can irritate rather than soothe skin. For best results, use a face mask once a week in addition to vitamin E for moisturizing or witch hazel for toning.

Normal or Combination Skin Face Mask

Combination and normal skin benefits from an overall rejuvenating mask. Mix 1 egg with 1/2 cup of cooked instant oatmeal. Put in 1 tsp. of olive oil (or more if your skin needs a little extra hydration). Leave this mask on the face and neck for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water. Your skin should be toned and radiant.

Oily Skin Face Mask

An oily complexion can be controlled with an all-natural herbal face mask because there are less fillers that can clog pores. Mix 1 tbsp. of honey with 1 egg white, 1 tsp. of lemon juice and a few pinches of powdered brewer’s yeast. Spread the mixture on the face and neck and leave it on for up to 20 minutes, rinsing the face with warm water. The skin should look brighter and tighter and feel fresh.

Dry Skin Face Mask

Dry skin needs healing ingredients that do not just sit on the surface of the skin but get absorbed into the epidermis. Mix together 1/2 of a mashed ripe avocado with an egg yolk and 1 or more tsp. of olive oil. The consistency with be pasty. Apply the mixture to the face and neck and let it soak in for up to 20 minutes. Use a damp tissue or towel to remove the mask. Your skin should look uplifted and glowing.

Dehydrated Skin Face Mask

Any type of skin can get dehydrated, especially in harsh wind or extreme cold. Alleviate the flaking, redness and itchiness of dry skin with a healing herbal face mask. Mash a ripe banana with an ounce of fine-milled uncooked oatmeal and a teaspoon of honey. Apply the mixture to the face and neck for up to 20 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water and pat the face dry. Your skin should feel more elastic and look fresh.
