Ways to Curl Eyelashes

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Most eyelashes are not naturally curly; therefore, you must take certain steps in order to achieve this effect. Curly eyelashes can make the eyes more alluring. Some women even go to great lengths and use extension eyelashes just to achieve curlier eyelashes; however, inexperienced users may end up damaging their natural eyelashes in the process. Fortunately, there are different ways to achieve curlier eyelashes.

Eyelash Curler Method

The most common method to use when curling eyelashes is by using an eyelash curler. The eyelash curler is a tool that you can buy at the cosmetics aisle at any department store or drugstore. To use the curler, open your eyes wide and gently position the gripper near the base of your eyelashes. Squeeze the finger loops slowly and gently to close the gripper. Hold the curler in this closed position for about 10 to 15 seconds. Keep your hand steady. Never pull or jerk the curler to avoid weakening or pulling your lashes. Slowly release the gripper, and then repeat the steps until you achieve the desired curl.

Some women opt to put on mascara prior to using the eyelash curler; however, if you prefer the natural look without the heaviness of mascara, you can curl your eyelash without putting on mascara.

Spoon Method

Spoon

If you are intimidated by using the eyelash curler, you can opt to use a spoon instead. First, apply a light talcum or baby powder on your eyelashes in order to prevent them from clumping together. Then, apply a mascara of your choice. Find a clean spoon and then heat it up with warm water. Dry it with a clean towel. Touch the spoon and check that it is not too hot so that it will not burn your skin. Hold the handle of the spoon and place the curved or underside of the spoon toward you above your eyelashes. Starting from one end, press the underneath of your eyelashes firmly with your thumb against the edge of the spoon for about 10 seconds. Release your thumb, and then repeat the step until all sections of each eyelash reach the desired curl. Do not move the spoon while you press your eyelashes with your thumb in order to avoid any accidental pulling or breaking of your eyelashes.

Warm Fingers Method

Fingers

The safest and simplest of the three methods is the use of your fingers. Begin by applying a coat of mascara. While applying the mascara, make sure that you roll the mascara applicator up in order to position your eyelashes in an upward position. Then, apply a second coat of mascara. Before the second coat of mascara dries, rub your fingers together until they are warm. Then, push the eyelashes up with the tips of your fingers. Hold your fingers against your eyelashes for about 10 to 15 seconds. Repeat until your eyelashes have the desired amount of curl. Warm up your fingers repeatedly if necessary. You can speed up the warming process by running your fingers under warm water or by pointing a warm hair blow dryer close to your fingers.
