How to Spot Clean a Wedding Gown

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

A beautiful white lace gown–your wedding dress is probably the most precious garment you will ever own. You dream of how beautiful you will look in it, and you have nightmares of spilling things on it. To prepare for your wedding day, put together an emergency kit with items to spot-clean your wedding dress. Always try the easiest spot-removing method first before trying the other spot-cleaning methods.

Step 1

Blot the stain with a white towel as soon as possible. Don’t rub it, since that could force the stain deeper into the fibers or spread it wider. Get as much of the stain out.

Step 2

Treat the stain with a Tide-to-Go stain pen. Put a white towel under the stained material and rub the Tide pen across the stain.

Step 3

Use a Shout wipe on the stain. Put a white towel under the stained material and wipe with the Shout wiping cloth.

Step 4

Use a Dryel Stain Remover with one of the absorbent pads. Place the absorbent pad under the stain. Rub the tip of the Dryel stain remover over the stain, moving the pad as it gets saturated. Blot the material with a white towel to remove excess cleaning solution.

Step 5

Cover any of the remaining spot with white chalk. Rub it over the spot; it will cover the stain and not damage the material.

Warnings

  • Don’t wet the material with water, club soda or other fluids.
  • Don’t use a blow dryer to speed drying. It can spread the fluid or leave a mark on the dress.
