How to Fade Age Spots on Your Face

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Aging is something that happens to everyone, but that doesn’t mean that it needs to show on your face. Age spots are a normal sign that your skin is getting older. These steps will help you learn how to fade age spots on your face.

Step 1

Avoid activities that increase age spots. While you’re working to fade the age spots on your face, you need to avoid anything that will increase them or cause more. Use a high-powered sunscreen every single day. Even if you’re inside and the shades on the windows are open, UV rays can still reach your skin. Avoid cigarettes as well, because they can also cause age spots and wrinkles.

Step 2

Purchase a treatment containing nutgrass root. Nutgrass Root is an herbal extract that has been proven to reduce the appearance of age spots by up to 40%. Since this information has become available, many skincare products have added this ingredient. It lightens melanin quickly, helping to remove age spots. Follow the directions on the product regarding how many times each day to apply it.

Step 3

Establish a daily face routine. Care for your skin consistently each day. Your routine should include a gentle face cleanser and moisturizer, as well as any products you’re using to care for the age spots on your skin. If you have normal skin, performing your skin care routine once a day is fine. However, if your skin is oily, you should do it twice–once in the morning and once at night.

Step 4

Use natural lightening products. Rather than spending a lot of money on beauty products, use natural products that will lighten those age spots. After performing your daily face wash, rub lemon juice on your face and allow it to sit for a few minutes. This naturally lightens the age spots and melanin on your face. Then, rinse and apply an aloe vera gel and glycerin mix. Mix 2 parts aloe vera gel with 1 part vegetable glycerin. This can be found in your local health store.

Step 5

Learn about cosmetic dangers. Unfortunately, many of the cosmetics and personal care products individuals use contain harmful or dangerous ingredients. Not only have some of these ingredients been proven to cause age spots, but many cause tumors, cancer and other dangerous conditions.
