Steps to Give a Spa Facial

October 11, 2009 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Give yourself a spa facial in the comfort of your own home. The facial consists of sequential steps, and you can use any store-bought line of facial products or homemade cleansers made from natural materials.

Step 1

Relax first with by wrapping a warm towel over your face, or by gently steaming the face over a bowl of hot water. This will also help open pores. Pat face dry.

Step 2

Dampen face with warm water. Lather up a cleanser in the palms of your hands, and rub into the face in a circular motion, avoiding the eyes. Rinse face with cool water, and pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 3

Exfoliate the dry layer of skin with an exfoliating cleanser or scrub. Cleansers with crushed apricot seeds or crushed almonds work well. Rinse thoroughly.

Step 4

Massage with circular motions, sweeping gently across the forehead, avoiding sensitive temples, and repeat. Move to the nose and cheeks, jawbone and neck.

Step 5

Deep clean with a mask. Use a mask made for oily skin, dry skin or to unclog pores. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, or follow the recommended time on the packaging. Wear a chilled eye mask or put cucumber slices over eyes, and sit back.

Step 6

Rehydrate with a moisturizer. Protect skin by using a moisturizer with an SPF rating of at least 15.

Step 7

Apply a moisturizing balm to lips, a step that is often neglected during a spa facial.

Warnings

  • If any product produces an uncomfortable or burning sensation wash it off with cool water immediately.
