How to Get Rid of Neck Stretch Marks

Stretch marks, also called striae, appear on different parts of the body where the skin has stretched or lost elasticity. Hormone-related body changes and life stages including puberty and pregnancy can cause stretch marks. Most often the stretch marks may be found on the breasts, abdomen and legs, and sometimes on the neck.

Step 1

Exfoliate the neck skin regularly with an extra-gentle cleanser. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and encourages skin renewal.

Step 2

Moisturize the neck area daily when you apply moisturizer to your face. Choose a moisturizer with sunscreen to protect the neck skin from the sun.

Mix equal parts of almond, lavender, frankincense and sandalwood essential oils into the skin of the neck to get rid of neck stretch marks.

Step 4

Apply cocoa butter at night to help reduce the neck stretch marks. This home remedy may work for some stretch marks although it has not been medically proven.

Tone underlying neck muscles with yoga poses including the downward facing dog, the cobra poses and the bow pose (see Resources).

Step 6

Make an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss receiving a prescription-strength Retin-A or other topical retinoids to get rid of neck stretch marks.

Step 7

Consider cosmetic surgical procedures including dermabrasion, chemical peels or laser treatments to get rid of stretch marks on the neck. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using services only by practitioners who are board certified in dermatology.

Warnings

  • Do not forget to apply sunscreen to the neck to avoid future damage.
  • Do not confuse neck rings with stretch marks.
  • Stretch marks may fade, but they may not disappear completely.
