How to Get Loose Curls

If you’ve ever wondered how celebrities get their curls just right, wonder no more. Creating loose, flowing curls is easy, once you know how to do it. If you want that perfect wavy style like Kate Hudson is known for wearing, you can make your own with a little time, 12 Velcro rollers and a hair dryer.

Step 1

Wash, condition and dry your hair. Choose a shampoo that is formulated to enhance curls. Condition only the ends of your hair so you don’t add weight to the rest of your hair. The heavier your hair is, the harder it will be to get the curls to hold.

Step 2

Apply a small amount of styling product to your dry hair. Choose a volumizing mousse or hair gel and rub it between your hands to evenly disperse it. Using too much will weigh your hair down and decrease its natural shine. Run your hands through your hair several times, from the roots to the ends.

Step 3

Wrap sections of your hair around 2-inch Velcro rollers. Lightly spray or mist the wrapped rollers with hairspray. Place a diffuser on the end of your hairdryer. On the highest heat setting and lowest air flow setting, heat your hair. Allow your hair to completely cool. This heating and cooling of your hair will help to set the curls.

Step 4

Remove the rollers and use your fingers to loosen he curls. Spray or mist your fingers with hairspray, or place a small amount finishing product on your fingers, and run them through your hair to separate and define the curls. Spray or mist your palms with hairspray and rub down any flyaway hairs.

Warnings

  • If you take the rollers out of your hair before your hair is completely cooled, your curls may not set.
