Plan a New Year’s Eve Slumber Party for Your Tween

A tween slumber party on New Year’s Eve ensures the youngsters spend the holiday safely under your supervision. To keep your sanity in a house full of kids, plan the party thoroughly so they’ll stay entertained. Input from your child will help you select activities the party guests will enjoy. Begin planning at least one month in advance so you have plenty of time to organize the party elements. Choosing a theme, such as a spa party or a movie night, provides additional guidance in the planning.

Step 1

Write the guest list with the help of your tween. Limit the number of guests to keep the party manageable. Help your child narrow it down if her guest list is too long. Consider the personalities of the potential guests to ensure that they get along and have fun together.

Step 2

Make the invitations for the slumber party. Cut party hats or other relevant shapes out of card stock. Write the party details on the shape cutout. Involve your child in decorating the invitations with markers and glitter for a personal touch.

Step 3

Plan the entertainment for the New Year’s Eve slumber party. Ask your child for suggestions on party games and activities. Make a list of supplies needed for the activities. Consider spa treatments, board games, a movie marathon, karaoke or a dance party.

Step 4

Create the menu for the young guests. Choose a variety of foods that are easy to eat, such as appetizers, snack mix and pizza. Make a list of groceries you will need to purchase for the party, including drinks and paper products.

Step 5

Organize simple decorations for the slumber party. Consider balloons, streamers, confetti and cardboard cutouts displaying the year. Call on your child to assist in hanging the decorations on the day of the party. Start decorating early enough to finish the job before the guests arrive.
