Side Effects of Alesse Birth Control Pills

April 21, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Using Alesse birth control pills can help alleviate concerns about unplanned pregnancies; however, the pill can cause certain side effects. Understanding the potential side effects can help you make an informed decision when it comes to using Alesse as your birth control choice.

Upset Stomach

Stomach cramping, vomiting or feeling slightly nauseous have been reported with the use of Alessa. Eating a small snack when you take it might help alleviate this side effect.

Swelling

Your breasts may feel tender, and you may experience some swelling once you start taking Alesse birth control.

Skin Pigmentation

You may find that your freckles are multiplying since beginning the Alesse birth control plan. In addition to more freckles, you may find that the pigmentation of your skin becomes darker.

Hair Thinning

Thinning hair and hair that falls out can happen on the pill. Speak to your doctor if you become concerned about the amount of hair you are losing once you start the program.

Serious Problems

Serious side effects that have been reported with the use of Alesse include jaundice, chest pain, sweating related to chest pain, hives, difficulty with breathing and swelling of the throat. If one of these rare but serious side effects occur, you should stop the pill and seek immediate medical treatment.
