What Diet Will Rid Cellulite?

April 30, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

For any mom, summer can mean taking the kids to the pool or the beach. While it might feel good to enjoy the sun, having cottage cheese thighs can make it difficult for you to strut around in a bathing suit with confidence. Instead of investing in board shorts, try adopting a diet designed to get rid of cellulite. According to the Mayo Clinic, losing weight is “probably” the best way to treat cellulite. In addition, you may need to look into lasers and radio frequency systems.

Curb Hunger With Small Meals

According to the Cellulite Treatment Advice website, one of the first things moms can do to eliminate cellulite is to eat five to six smaller meals a day, rather than three large meals. While it can be tempting for a busy mom to skip breakfast, and sometimes lunch, skipping meals can make it more difficult for the body to break down food adequately when you do eat. Smaller meals can help you feel full, reducing the amount of food you consume at your next meal. If you are overweight, smaller portions can keep your daily calorie content within recommended levels for a healthy bodyweight.

Enjoy the Right Proteins

Any well-balanced diet should include proteins, but when you want to get rid of fat like cellulite, stick to lean proteins. The Medical News Today website reports cellulite can occur when a person eats too much fat. The excess mixes with toxins and builds up in your body, so avoid adding more fat when you can. A simple step is to avoid eating the skin on poultry. Bake or broil meat instead of frying it. Processed meats often contain additional ingredients you should avoid if you want to lose cellulite, so opt for natural options.

Eat More Fiber

The Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) lists fiber as an essential component for a healthy digestion system. Fiber helps remove toxins and excess fat through your intestinal tract. Adding fiber to your diet can help your body get rid of the harmful materials causing cellulite. While some people think of bran muffins as a dietary staple for an older generation, moms might want to include them as a family snack. Other sources of fiber include grains, whole wheat and brown rice. HSPH recommends females get 20 grams of fiber a day.

Add Color to Your Diet

Many moms understand the important roles that fruits and vegetables play in a healthy diet, but it is important to pick the best ones when you’re trying to remove cellulite. The Living Foods website reports that fruits and vegetables lose enzymes at temperatures over 116 degrees F, which means raw foods maintain more of their nutrients than cooked ones. Canned fruit often sits in syrup, absorbing unnecessary sugar and fat. Fruit drinks may have added sugar. If you eat salad, limit the amount of dressing you use or replace it with a healthy alternative, like a balsamic vinegar dressing.

Help Your Body Detox

According to Len Kravitz, Ph.D., cellulite is a problem for many moms, even those who aren’t overweight. That’s why it’s important to focus on detoxifying your body and not just weight loss. Replace sodas with water. If you need some flavor, add honey or lemon to a glass of ice water. Drink water and tea throughout the day and not just at meal time. Ageless, a website dedicated to overall health, recommends adding 1 to 2 tsp. of powdered brewer’s yeast to vegetable juice and drinking the mixture 20 minutes before eating to help your liver break down toxins.
