How to Lose Weight & Fast

One of the first things on your mind as a mom may be how to lose weight quickly. No, this is not another diet scam on how to lose weight fast. Like everything else in your life, a simple and steady approach to resolving the problem of excess weight usually works best. However, if you want to up your chances of fast weight loss for an upcoming family reunion or other special occasion, you can take a few simple steps.

Step 1

Exercise, exercise, exercise. As a mom, you are extraordinarily busy and the idea of adding yet another activity to an already hectic schedule sounds more exhausting than bicycling uphill. However, a simple rule applies to quick weight loss; expend more calories than you eat. Instead of taking the elevator, use the stairs. Take the little ones for a walk. Consider taking an hour a day to join a local recreation center and participate in a group exercise class such as aqua aerobics or Zumba dancing. Some recreation centers even have “Mommy and Me” yoga and Zumba dancing.

Step 2

Drink water, especially instead of sugary drinks. It might be tempting to guzzle fruit juice or fruit juice blends when you’re busy at home. However, this can quickly derail your weight-loss efforts.

Step 3

Eat more fruit, and encourage your children to do the same. Women’s Health, a program of the United States federal government, strongly encourages women to eat at least 2 cups of fresh or canned fruit a day. Make sure this is packed in its own juice, not syrup.

Step 4

Put down the salt shaker. Not only is too much sodium bad for your heart, but it also causes water retention and can stall weight loss. Women’s Health recommends that you ingest no more than about 1 tsp. of salt, or 2,300 mg, of sodium each day. Remember to check the packages of your favorite foods for added sodium content; processed foods and lunch meat often consist of a lot of sodium.

Step 5

Change your family’s protein choices; this will not only help you lose weight fast but also ensure your family’s continued health. Opt for chicken and turkey rather than pork and beef. Select the leanest cuts of meat, especially if you really don’t want to give up pork or beef. Bake, broil or pan-fry your protein selections in olive oil. This will help you quickly and safely trim the size of your waistline and prevent your children from dealing with the battle of the bulge.
