Pregnancy Fashion Tips

Just because you’re pregnant, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your personal style. You can find many ways to dress comfortably, while staying fashion-forward throughout your pregnancy. Take pieces from your closet, borrow clothes from friends who have recently given birth, shop your spouse’s closet or hit a trendy maternity boutique in your area to create a style of your own.

Tune-Up Your Wardrobe with Tunics

Tunics are fashionable and comfortable pieces you can incorporate into your wardrobe. Available in a variety of prints, patterns and fabrics, tunics can be paired with leggings and jeans to create a variety of looks. They move with your body and provide ample room for an expanding belly.

Stretch Your Style

Nothing spells comfort for a pregnant woman like stretchable leggings. Dress them up for a night at dinner with friends and dress them down for a workout at the gym. Select common colors, like black, gray, dark blue and beige, that can blend seamlessly with any wardrobe.

Get Flirty With Dresses

Free-flowing dresses are an asset to a pregnant woman’s wardrobe, especially during the warm spring and summer months. Purchase colors that suit your skin tone; add delicate accessories that don’t overwhelm your appearance.

Jeans Are Still a Classic Fit

Jeans are a classic part of any wardrobe, even when you’re pregnant. Purchase maternity jeans you can wear on weekends to run errands, brunch with friends and attend appointments. The Cradle website suggests purchasing styles that go under the belly for a more attractive look that can carry you from pregnancy to post-baby.

Ditch the Maternity Wear

There’s no pregnancy rule that says, “When pregnant, you must shop maternity.” In fact, you can still purchase clothing from your favorite stores, a size or two larger than you’d usually wear. This way you don’t have to deviate too far away from the style of fashion you wore before the baby bump. And what’s best of all, you can wear these items post-baby, until you’re down to your regular size.

Dressing for the Office

Dressing for the office while pregnant can be problematic, if you don’t have the right pieces in your wardrobe. The Parents website suggests using blazers and cardigans as staples. There’s no need to purchase new items that will button across your belly. Instead, wear them unbuttoned and pair them with a comfortable dress shirt beneath. Pair dresses, skirts and dress pants to complete the look.
