Clothes to Wear During Pregnancy
No matter how fashionable you were before pregnancy, that new baby belly and bloating body present a new set of problems. The wrong clothes will leave you in the slumps. On the other hand, dressing your best will help you feel flirty and feminine, even on the puffiest of days.
Show It Off
Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you don’t want to be flirty. Show off your feminine lures with a silky soft top. With a growing chest, you might be proud of your new breast size. Don’t be afraid to display them a little bit. A gentle V-neck shirt lets you show off the curves of your new chest, without looking flashy or exhibitionistic. Wear a shirt that gives everyone a look at your collarbone, always a flirty part of the female body.
Wrap It Up
A wrap dress–designer Diane von Furstenberg’s 1970s’ sensation–is the perfect addition to any pregnant woman’s wardrobe. The dress, and its blouse counterparts, are worthy investments as they work well into postnatal wardrobe. Cotton or jersey fabrics translate from work to dinner, from a child’s birthday party to a night out. The V-neck style secures and covers your breasts as they grow–and makes them easily accessible once you’ve started breastfeeding. The additional length in the top panel of the dress and its long tie allow you to widen the piece as you grow–and shrink the width as you lose weight after birth.
Stretch It Out
Don’t be afraid of your ballooning belly. This, after your own babyhood, is the one time in your life that everyone will find your belly adorable. You may have noticed the strangers in the grocery store, magically attracted to your stomach. Don’t hide your belly under a giant muumuu. Look for comfortable dresses, tops or skirts that conform to your belly. Tight pieces of stretchy fabrics tell everyone “I have a baby in here, and I’m proud of it.”
Layer It Up
A belly band sits around your torso to cover your belly, while you wear your normal clothes. This is especially useful in the early stages when your belly is just a bump. Fitting snuggly over your belly, cozy camis are perfect spring through autumn. When the weather cools off, throw on a large, soft cardigan. Layers let you regulate your temperature fluctuations. With structured pieces, you can remain comfortable and cozy, without looking sloppy.
