Fun Hairstyles for Kids

Your tot is undoubtedly cute as is, but by clipping his coif to create an interesting and attention-getting hairdo, you can make his look even more memorable. From playful styles for petite girls to cutting-edge cuts for boys, there are an assortment of fun hairstyle options from which to select when you want your child’s hairdo to stand out from those of his peers.

Pigtails

Pigtails are quintessentially the hairdo of little girls. While some have moved away from this childhood staple, a set of pigtails still provides any little cutie with a classic and youthful look. Style your daughter’s hair into a set of standard pigtails using a comb to create a crisp part, or braid her locks to create a different pigtail aesthetic.

French Braid

The French braid is a durable and attractive hairstyle. When done properly, a tight French braid will stand up a rousing round of play or youthful exuberance. The standard French braid can be done tightly and braided to the base of the hair, or left in a loose pony at the end. You can even mix the French braid with pigtails to create an adorable do for your daughter.

Ringlets

Ringlet curls give any little girl an innocent and bouncy look. While this do will likely not withstand serious play, it is a good choice for family pictures or special events when you want your daughter to look extra special. Instead of spending hours with a curling iron trying to achieve this look, use hot rollers or wrap your daughter’s wet hair in sponge rollers before she drifts off to sleep and allow her to wake up to a head full of springy curls..

Faux Hawk

Little boys can walk on the fashion edge with a faux hawk. While few parents would clip their tot’s tresses into an actual mohawk, a faux hawk is a temporary hairdo that you can allow your little rebel to adopt. If your kid has locks of at least 1 inch, he is ready for a faux hawk. Create this style by simply slathering gel or hair paste onto his head and using your hands to create a peak at the center of his crown.

Spikes

Another option for boys who want something a little less mundane than the standard boy cut is fashioning spikes. You can even allow your tot to get in on the fun of creating this hairdo. Simply take your kiddo’s hair and add gel or hair paste. Divide the hair into sections and mold it into small spikes to make his head pop.
