10-Minute Easy Celebrity Hairstyles

September 15, 2010 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

You do not need a personal stylist to get the red-carpet look. Check out celebrity hairstyles that inspire you, and you will find that many of them demand nothing more than a good haircut and some over-the-counter styling products. Taking a few risks with a new, easy hairstyle and experimenting with products and color dramatically updates your look.

Updo

For people with long or medium-length hair, one of the quickest simple celebrity hairstyles is the updo, seen on the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie. The art of the updo is to differentiate it from the common ponytail. Pull back your hair from the front of your face. Hold it back with an elastic that you cover with a decorative hair clip or clasp. Pull your hair from the back into a loose, messy ponytail. Coil the ponytail upward, securing it at the crown of your head with bobby pins. For a sleeker effect, slick down the sides and top of your hair with smoothing cream. Soften the effect by pulling loose strands from the updo and twirling them around your finger to create loose waves.

Bedhead

If you prefer a more bohemian look, try out Scarlett Johansson’s hairstyle that extends right past her jaw line. Dampen your hair, and part it in the middle. Finger comb your locks with mousse or, if you have thicker hair, hair putty or hair mud. Air-dry your hair. Run some styling wax raggedly through your hair to create a messier look. This look works best with wavy hair or loose curls, though women with straight hair can use a curling iron to make the waves necessary for the tousled look.

Layers

One perennial favorite hairstyle amongst celebrities that also happens to be easy is layered hair. You can go with short and spiky layers all over, like Meg Ryan, or longer layers as in the case of Gwyneth Paltrow. A layered cut lifts up the hair and makes it appear healthier and fuller. Maximize waves by blow-drying hair until it’s barely damp. Lightly spray hair with hair spray, and wrap it around large rollers for 20 minutes if it’s long, or finger comb gel through it if it’s short.
