Family Weekend Getaway in Coronado

Summer is drawing to a close but there’s still time for a fun weekend getaway with your family!

We decided to plan a special trip to Coronado, a quaint resort town on a peninsula connected to the mainland of San Diego. I’d heard about it, but I’d never visited the island, so we were all excited for the new experience!

After dealing with Los Angeles traffic for a few hours, we made it to the bridge (it’s called the Silver Strand) that takes you to Coronado. You instantly feel like you’ve been transported to another world.

With its beautiful coastlines, boats, sandy beaches that sparkle (a huge favorite with the kids), shops and restaurants, this island town became an instant family favorite.

We stayed at the Loews Coronado Bay. This hotel is off the beaten path surrounded by breathtaking ocean views and gorgeous sandy beaches.

The hotel staff was unbelieveably welcoming and accomodating. The pools were very family-friendly with different activities throughout the day including hulu hoop contests, henna tattoes, ping pong and super-sized chess and Connect Four games.

We watched a “dive-in movie” at the pool while we ate a late dinner. The village is a short four miles away if you want the hustle and bustle of the small town, but the beach is just a few minute’s stroll from the hotel.

The Silver Strand State Beach is named one of the top 10 beaches in the world, and for good reason. You can walk for miles, look for sand dollars, boogie board, surf, water ski or go bike riding. And if for some reason this idealic beach settings doesn’t provide enough stimulation – the San Diego attractions are super close.

Definitely a must-visit destination!!
