Spring’s Hottest Footwear Trend: The Flatform

One of footwear’s biggest (and most practical) trends for Spring 2011 is the flatform – a style of shoe that adds inches but is essentially flat, is a departure from the ankle surgery-inducing stilettos of the past few seasons, and doesn’t come with a two-drink maximum. Flatforms were first seen on the runways of Jil Sander, Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Phillip Lim and a slew of other designers during the Spring shows a few months ago. So if you need a comfortable shoe that allows you to run after your kids while still looking stylish, you’re in luck. Flatforms are ideal to pair with this season’s 70s-style, wide-leg denim since they’ll give you the extra height you need to rock the elongated retro look, but are basically as easy to wear as a pair of flip flops. Here are my 5 top flatform shoes of the season.

Jil Sander tan platform sandals

Pedro Garcia woven espadrilles

Tory Burch crisscross canvas espadrilles

TopShop coral suede peep toe platform wedges
