How do you organize clothes for 5 little girls in 3 bedrooms w/o breaking the bank with furniture?

Sounds like a fun!  Here are our favorite tips for getting little one’s clothing in order.

            1.        If you are running out of space to put the girls’ clothes, how about under the bed? If you are handy, you can use an old dresser drawer and just put casters on it to roll under the bed.  Have the girls paint and sticker the drawers to make them more personal. They can keep anything in them from T-shirts, shorts, pants, underwear, to shoes and socks!  If you aren’t handy, you can purchase inexpensive under bed storage containers.

            2.        Think vertical!  If your kids are small, put up shelves that are low enough for them to reach. You can buy shelving systems, or create your own!  Use cleats as supports for the shelves and attach them to the sides of the closet – then run the shelves across the cleats.  Attach the shelves with screws.  Then comes the fun part.  Have the girls go to the local home store and pick out a ‘reject’ color (a mixed color that was returned) for their shelf.  Assign the shelves to the girls and have them put their folded clothing on the shelves.  (Remember, this is a closet and if you hate their color choices, you can always close the door).  You could even purchase inexpensive baskets for the shelves – different colors for different girls – to keep their clothing stored in!  You can use the higher shelves for out-of-season clothing storage – where they probably cannot reach.

            3.        Use the back of doors and walls!  Put up a couple of hooks for each of the girls to use for dress up clothes, back packs, or whatever they like!
