TELL TO WIN by Peter Guber

March 2, 2011 by ModernMom Staff Leave a Comment

Purposeful stories are essential in persuading others to support a vision, dream, or cause, according to author and entrepreneur Peter Guber, whose successes have made him a skilled story teller and motivator.

In his book "Tell to Win: Connect, Persuade and Triumph with the Hidden Power of Story", Guber demonstrates that calling people to action takes more than a few Power Point slides. He teaches readers to capture their audience’s attention, motivate by showing authenticity, tell listeners "what’s in it for them", transform passive listeners into active participants, and use "state-of-the-heart" technology to attract and maintain audiences.

In his own words, the focus of Guber’s book is on "telling stories for your goal, rather than story-telling." "Telling purposeful stories to win is a game-changing business proposition that anyone can do and start seeing results immediately," he added in an interview with Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post.

Guber shares stories of his past experiences with some great master tellers, or "voices" as he calls them, including YouTube founder Chad Hurley, NBA champion Pat Riley, clothing designer Norma Kamali, "Mission to Mars" scientist Gentry Lee, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, former South African president Nelson Mandela, magician David Copperfield, film director Steven Spielberg, novelist Nora Roberts, rock legend Gene Simmons, and physician and author Deepak Chopra.

After reading "Tell to Win", you’ll have a better idea of how to create and tell your own story to compell others to advocate for your objective. This is a definite must-read.
