Feel Your Best Without Spending a Fortune

March 14, 2011 by lesliefaith Leave a Comment

How many of you are excited that Spring is right around the corner? When we have beautiful warm days here in Denver, it completely lifts your mood and outlook. With daylight savings, the kids can now play outside longer and everyone is in a better mood. Part of feeling your best is taking care of yourself emotionally, physically and mentally. Celebrities pay a small fortune to look and feel their best. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a nutritionist to cook all your meals, a trainer to whip you into shape, a stylist to dress you from top to bottom, and a skin care expert to offer you products that make you look ten years younger? In reality, the majority of us have to take ownership for how we feel. On the flip side, it empowers you to know that you can feel great without spending a lot of money. Many great things in life are free. When is the last time you did something nice for yourself that didn’t cost a lot of money? What did you do? For me, taking a walk with my husband and dog on a beautiful day lifts my spirits and makes me feel great. Just getting some fresh air on a warm day, away from technology and phones, energizes me from the inside out. This week is all about doing what you can to look and feel your best on a no-cost budget.

1. Drink water

I specifically added this tip because it is something I struggle with. I do not drink enough water-plain and simple. There are days when I drink maybe 5 sips of water in the entire day. I know…very bad! No wonder I feel sluggish, have digestive issues, have very dry skin, etc…Drinking water helps flush toxins from the body, keeps the kidneys healthy, helps eyes stay moist and helps stomachs digest food better. I have started carrying around a water bottle to remind me to drink and it is something I suggest everyone does starting this week.

2. Take a walk

Like I mentioned above, one of the easiest way to feel better is to take a walk. Just the act of getting some fresh air and sunlight, will positively impact you physically and mentally. It is great to kick it up a notch and do some speed walking. This is great for your heart and cardiovascular system. You can’t put a price on the effects of being surrounded by nature. Something about spending time in nature, grounding you and clearing your mind, is priceless during the craziness of life. So commit to spending more time outside this week!

3. Spend some time every day in silence

Do you want a surefire way to feel your best? Turn off your cell phone, walk away from your computer, get out of the house or office, simply leave your life for at least fifteen minutes a day. Quieting your mind is a very simple way to feel better. We get so caught up in the details of everyday life that we lose focus with what really matters. Take some time to meditate, journal, take a yoga class, or all of the above. It will rejuvenate you, fill you up with energy, lower your stress cortisol levels, and keep you grounded. Make this commitment to yourself~
