How to Reduce Eye Puffiness After Crying

January 25, 2011 by ds_51230 Leave a Comment

When you’ve been crying, it’s normal for your eyes to become red and puffy. Unfortunately, this alerts others to the fact that you’ve been crying, which you don’t necessarily want. Whether you’ve been up all night crying or went into the office restroom for a quick meltdown, you’ll need to take action to look as though you haven’t been crying. Only time will completely get rid of your puffy eyes, but you can work to reduce the puffiness after crying.

Step 1

Take a few deep breaths. If you’re still crying — or might start up again — you won’t be able to get rid of the eye puffiness. Deep breathing allows you to calm down and regain control of your emotions.

Step 2

Drink some water. The more dehydrated you are, the more puffy your eyes will look.

Step 3

Place a cold cloth over your eyes for as long as you can. It’s best to take a rest while applying the washcloth, but even a short amount of time will help reduce the puffiness.

Step 4

Use makeup to cover up the puffiness. This won’t fully eliminate it, but makeup will minimize the message that you’ve been crying.
