Make An Effortless Transition Into Fall Fashion

September 20, 2011 by Patrick Caldwell Leave a Comment

Summer may technically be over, Labor Day has come and gone, the kids are heading back to school and you swear you saw an orange leaf the other day, but that doesn’t mean that you have to bring out all the cold weather clothes just yet.

Hold on to summer for just awhile longer with these great ways to take your look from summer light to autumn warmth:

Keep The Sundress Even Without The Summer Sun

Who doesn’t love a sundress? It’s fun, it’s flirty and it’s easy. So then keep wearing it! Just add a nice tailored jacket (that hangs no longer than three inches below your waist). Since sundresses tend to be wild on their own, try to keep the jacket simple and match it with a single color in your dress. And shoes? Calf high boots! They’ll keep your legs warm, and still show off what’s left of that gorgeous summer tan.

Peasant Tops Will Keep You Warm & Looking Hot

Peasant tops are an amazing article to wear this time of year, they have enough material to keep you covered when the wind begins to blow but are still sexy enough to show a little skin. Pair a moderately bright top (one that has some pizzazz but in a neutral color) with your favorite tight jeans- this allows juxtaposition between the two fits, flattering a top-heavy body. Then pair your look with some gorgeous nude high heels and you are ready for an evening of fun, even without the sun.

Scarves Are Your Best Friend

During this seasonal transition, weather tends to vacillate between hot and cold with no more than a moment’s notice. So how do you plan for a patio party that starts in the afternoon and promises to extend into the dark? A scarf. This handy gem is essential and can easily be carried around; plus they add a monumental amount of warmth to your body. But be warned, plan your look around the idea that you will be wearing a scarf- meaning keep it simple, because as soon as you add a scarf you increase your look a level. And when in doubt remember, one loud accessory is perfect, two is too many!

Gold Keeps the Cold Away

The best thing to do when choosing jewelry this time of year is use the heaviness of gold and balance it with light hearted gems. Green peridots and blue turquoise are perfect matches with golden earrings and necklaces because they echo the colors of warm sunny deserts and tropical paradise, while the heaviness of the gold matches the weather around you. It’s like life: you’re in the present moment, but you’re still dreaming of a Pina Colada in paradise.

Follow these simple steps and you’ll feel fashionable even during a time of year that bounces between seasons. No matter where you are or what the weather around you holds, keep in mind: start simple then add a layer. This allows you to look classy while being ready to face a stiff wind- even when that wind smells like winter.
