Dietary Guidelines

May 23, 2012 by Madison Pados Leave a Comment

This is article is a sponsored post for Nestlé Pure Life.

Want to live better and feel better? It’s easy to get on the right path to a healthy lifestyle by making small changes to your daily routine. Simple adjustments can make all the difference!

Choosing water like Nestlé Pure Life Purified Water, instead of sugared beverages, is one small healthy step that can have a major impact on your life!

Dietary Guidelines

Water is the single best recommendation for hydration, according to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines from the USDA. While sports drinks and many other beverages are capable of quenching thirst, water  hydrates without (among other things) calories, sugar or artificial colors.

This unique quality has led many public health experts and government agencies to encourage the consumption of water for hydration. Did you know that in 2010, the USDA recommended replacing sweetened beverages with those that have no sugar or are low in sugar, and suggested that people “drink water instead of sugary drinks.”

Carbonated soft drinks can contain as much as 40 grams of sugar per 12 ounce serving. Water is naturally sugar and calorie free, as well as crisp and refreshing. It’s a no-brainer!

Health Benefits

The simple act of replacing one 12 ounce 140-calorie sweetened caloric beverage each day with water will help a person cut up to 50,000 calories in a year from his or her diet.

While the average 12 ounce popular sweetened beverage has 140 calories, some have even more. A 12 ounce serving of cola contains 150 calories, the same amount of root beer has 170 calories and fruit punch has a whopping 195 calories. On the flip side, water has zero calories per 12 ounce serving. ZERO!

It’s no wonder the USDA recommends making a switch.

Take the Pledge!

Join more than 99,000 families who have already decided to make a healthy change, by becoming part of the Hydration Movement and pledge to replace one sugared beverage a day with water for a year.

The movement is part of an effort led by Nestlé Pure Life to encourage positive choices and help people everywhere live a healthy lifestyle.  To take part, visit the Nestlé Pure Life Facebook page and take the pledge today! Once you’ve signed up, don’t forget to share your stories with the rest of the Hydration Movement community.

Here’s what some people who’ve already taken the pledge said:

“I want to be healthier! I’m not only going to replace one drink with a bottle of Nestle water every day, I’m going to replace 3!” – Jared

“I was probably drinking one coffee and at least two 20 oz of soda a day. Now I rarely drink either. I have noticed that I have felt a lot better during the day and I have more energy to play with my kids.” – Tabitha
