Monster Munch Balls

October 29, 2018 by The Sugar Mommas Leave a Comment

Snap, Crackle, BOO!!

Putting a little spin on marshmallow crispy treats, we’ve made a fun and delicious Halloween project you can enjoy with the kids. Be careful – all the neighborhood monsters will want some of these tricky treats!

Monster Munch Ball Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 15 cups popcorn, popped
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 (16 oz.) bag mini marshmallows*
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Craft Sticks (6 inches)
  • Aluminum wrap

Directions:

Arrange 6-7 sheets of about 8 x 8-inch aluminum wrap on a work surface.  Spray each sheet with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until melted. Remove from heat and add vanilla if desired.

Add in 12 cups of popcorn and stir to coat. Continue adding the last three cups as needed. You want the popcorn coated but not too wet or dry.  Cool for 30 seconds.

Spray your hands with nonstick spray.  Scoop up approximately 1 ½  – 2 cups popcorn in your hands and form a tight ball.  Keep adding popcorn until you have the desired size. Wrap the ball in a sheet of aluminum wrap. Insert a craft stick and set aside on a baking sheet to cool.

(Repeat until all the popcorn has been formed into balls. Cool for 20 minutes)

*Sugar Mommas prefer Kraft marshmallows, which melt well

Decorate:

  • Edible decorations such as edible food graffiti, sprinkles, food gels (red for blood)
  • Marshmallow cream for glue
  • Pipe cleaners, plastic spiders, bats, eyeballs or other themed craft supplies (not for consumption, for display only)
  • Aluminum wrap

Directions:

Spread all of your supplies out on a work surface. You may want to cover the space if you intend to use edible food graffiti spray.

Use your creativity to decorate the balls in all sorts of spooktacular ways.  We suggest witches, monsters, spiders, mummies, vampires, or any creature you can imagine.
