Jen Garner Talks About Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Are you excited to go see the latest film based on a beloved children’s book, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”? If not … well, you should be!

The story isn’t just for kids – it’s a totally relatable comedy about a family who is just having one of those days. You know the drill: you forget to sign a permission slip, you spill coffee on your shirt, you’re late for school drop-off. Except, we’ll admit that the movie family has it a little bit worse.

One of our favorite Hollywood moms, Jennifer Garner, stars in the film, which hits theaters everywhere on October 10. We were lucky enough to pay a visit to the set and watch her film a scene at Vroman’s Book Soup in Burbank … plus we even had time to interview this amazing lady!

Check out some highlights below:

On whether she was familiar with the story before filming:

JG: “I have known this book my whole life. When I was little I wanted to be a children’s book librarian and a children’s book author … so yes, I could pretty much recite it to you.

On how she handles a terrible, horrible bad day?

JG: “You know when you wake up and everybody is just kind of going nuts at the same time? Luckily, I live in LA, so you just go outside. You have to go outside. You have to change the energy, get out of the house. Do something even if it’s raining. It doesn’t matter.”

Did she draw on her own experience for the role?

JG: “This movie is my life, so I really understand it. I’ve never played something that felt more like my life than this film.”

Finally, what she hopes kids will take away from the film:

JG: “I think all kids need to know it’s okay to have a bad day. It doesn’t define you.  It doesn’t mean your life is horrible; that grownups have them, too; and that you’re still loved even if you are rotten in the middle of your horrible, awful, very bad day.
